For workers who are attached to the factory day and night, information about the increase in regional minimum wage from January 1, 2026 has brought great joy to a better income. Ms. Le Thi Chua (worker at Tra Noc Industrial Park) shared that even though she has her own house and does not have to pay for a room, the monthly living expenses for her family of 4 are not small. Therefore, the salary increase will help her have more money to take care of her family.
"Everyone is happy to hear about the salary increase because goods are getting worse every day, especially during the recent storm, the price of vegetables in the workers' market has increased" - the female worker said.
Mr. Huynh Hai Duong (a worker renting a house in Can Tho City) expressed his excitement: "If you rent a room, the cost is higher, everything must be carefully calculated. If the salary increases, I can save a little more, or simply buy more fresh food for my daily meals. That is the greatest joy of workers".
Worry about rising salaries, rising prices
For workers, the joy of increasing wages is always accompanied by concerns about controlling commodity prices, especially essential goods, which often tend to increase immediately afterwards. In particular, this worry is even greater as the Lunar New Year is approaching.
The female worker Dinh Thi Huyen and her husband are currently living with their two children in a rented room near Tra Noc Industrial Park, sharing that if prices are not controlled, the salary increase is only enough to cover the increase in prices, life is still difficult.
"The salary increase is a great thing, but I am just afraid that some boarding house owners will increase room prices, and then the food prices at the market will increase too. Especially during Tet, buying a new shirt and shoes for the two children also has to be considered" - Ms. Huyen said.
Mr. Huynh Hai Duong also expressed that in addition to a good salary, he also wants a stable market. Only then will workers truly benefit from the salary increase policy.
Regarding the issue of commodity prices, the People's Committee of Can Tho City has just issued a Program to stabilize the market of essential goods, promote trade activities in 2025, Lunar New Year 2026 in the area. This is an activity to contribute to price stabilization, ensure supply and demand of goods, meet the needs of the people at the end of 2025 and the Lunar New Year 2026; and at the same time respond to fluctuations in fuel supply conditions.
Accordingly, the City Department of Industry and Trade is assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments, branches, sectors, units, People's Committees of communes and wards to organize the implementation of the Program; at the same time, closely monitor market developments and the supply and demand situation of goods, especially goods participating in the Program to promptly implement measures to stabilize the market.
In particular, the Department of Industry and Trade needs to direct the Market Management Department to develop a plan to inspect and control the market to detect and strictly handle violations of the law such as: Speculation, hoarding, trading in prohibited goods, smuggled goods, counterfeit goods, trade fraud, pushing prices up unreasonably, affecting commercial activities in the area, causing damage to consumers...
