No more overtime, workers' income decreases by nearly 2 million VND
From May 16, 2025, the leather shoe company where Ms. Pham Thi Phuong (46 years old, a worker in Ha Nam) works has decided to only work during office hours.
This means Ms. Phuong's income decreased by nearly 2 million VND/15 at the end of the month.
Previously, I worked overtime regularly for 2.5 hours/day for a whole month, I received more than 3 million VND and an additional meal for 26 days was 520,000 VND. For the last 15 days of the month, I only work during office hours, which means my income will decrease by about 1.8 million VND, said Ms. Phuong.
In addition, Ms. Phuong said that the leaders announced that they would work until the end of June and July, when overtime is expected to return. If there is no overtime in June, the female worker's income will only be about 7 million VND, down nearly 4 million VND.

With 8 years of work, Ms. Phuong has received many allowances and a basic salary higher than others. If she is a new employee to the company, according to the female worker, if she only works during office hours, her salary will not exceed 6 million VND.
With no more overtime, Ms. Phuong can return home early to take care of the children as well as have more time for her family and her body to be healthier. However, deep down, Ms. Phuong still hopes that the company will have orders to return soon to work overtime as before.
"Now I am healthy, I have enough overtime to spend, live and save for the future. In the next few years, weaken, and it will be difficult to work overtime. I hope the company will soon have many orders for workers to work overtime, ensuring income. Because working during office hours does not cost any money left over" - Ms. Phuong said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy (32 years old, Ha Nam) - a toy manufacturer said that this year, the season with few jobs comes earlier, making her quite worried.
"Every year, work is off until around July, this year from mid-May, the company has announced that in early June, it will only work during office hours" - Ms. Thuy said.
Sharing about her income, Ms. Thuy said that for the whole month of overtime until 8pm, she received 10 - 10.5 million VND. If deducting the overtime pay and allowances on the salary table, it will only be about 7.5 million VND/month. According to the female worker, if she is not skillful in spending, she may be short of money, because Ms. Thuy's family is still having to bear the additional debt of building a house.
Not only the workers work over time, many workers work under contracts (paying wages based on output) and are also worried when the company gives them home early.
Ms. Pham Thi Han (30 years old) - a garment worker in Nam Dinh shared that since May 19, the company has announced that the power will be turned off at 5:30 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. as before. Less working time means poorer output, causing female workers' income to decrease by more than 1 million VND.
"Staying to work for an extra hour helps us make quite a lot of goods to ensure income. The company will also support an additional 20,000 VND in overtime pay. Now I have to leave early, for the whole month, my income has decreased by more than 1 million VND" - Ms. Han said.
The female worker said that working time at 6:30 pm ended quite ideally because it was not too late, so her body did not feel tired, and in the evening she still had more time for her family.
Ms. Han hopes that in June, the company will have large orders again to ensure income and feel secure going to work every month.
