Workers brave the sun, accelerating the progress of key projects

Chánh Tiến (báo lao động) 10/04/2026 10:43 (GMT+7)

In the early summer heat, workers in Hanoi have to cover themselves, working day and night to maintain the progress of key traffic projects.

In the context of Hanoi entering the first hot spell of the season with outdoor temperatures fluctuating from 36-37 degrees Celsius, even higher at noon, traffic projects such as Tran Hung Dao bridge, Ring Road 1 section Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc or Long Bien bridge repair project are still being maintained with determination to ensure progress.

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong - Deputy Director of Ha Hai Railway Company (the unit constructing and repairing Long Bien bridge) - said that the nature of the work forces workers to work directly outdoors, exposed to the heat from the steel structure and the welding and cutting process. "If the outdoor temperature is at 36-37 degrees Celsius, then at the workplace, especially in the welding area, it may exceed 40 degrees Celsius" - Mr. Phuong said.

To minimize the impact of harsh weather, the unit has strengthened labor protection equipment, supplemented cool water and allowance regimes to help workers cool down and ensure health. At the same time, working hours are also flexibly adjusted in the direction of starting earlier in the morning, taking early lunch breaks and extending working hours to late afternoon to avoid harsh sunny hours. According to Mr. Phuong, although support measures have been implemented, the prolonged hot working environment still has a significant impact on workers' physical condition.

Recorded at the construction site of Tran Hung Dao bridge, working conditions are even more harsh when the project is located in the middle of the Red River, directly affected by hot sun. Ensuring labor safety is put first.

A worker belonging to the contractor Trung Chinh Company shared that working in a hot compartment, the heat from the welding machine radiates makes the air hot and stuffy. Thanks to the unit's concern with arranging enough drinking water and reasonable rest time, it partly helps workers reduce pressure and maintain construction pace.

About 5km from the Tran Hung Dao bridge project construction site, the Ring Road 1 project, Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section, is also being implemented synchronously and urgently. Male worker Nguyen Van Hung said that in recent days, the weather in Hanoi is scorching hot, working outside the construction site in hot weather is very hard, sweating continuously. "Brothers still encourage each other to overcome difficulties because the project progress has been set very specifically" - Mr. Hung shared.

To adapt to harsh weather conditions, his construction team has proactively adjusted working hours, overtime in the early morning and late afternoon, and limited working during hot sunny hours. In addition, workers are equipped with additional drinking water, shirts with fans and reasonable breaks.

Although it is hard, we clearly define our responsibilities, try to complete the assigned tasks, contributing to accelerating the overall progress of the project" - Mr. Hung said.

The Ring Road 1 project, Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section, is more than 2.2km long, with a total investment of more than 7,200 billion VND. On the route, 2 more direct overpasses will be built at the Nguyen Chi Thanh and Lang Ha intersections. The project is expected to be completed in 2026, contributing to reducing traffic pressure for the inner city area.
