Lam Dong - Da Lat Market operates day and night, generating tons of garbage every day and has been quietly maintained by 10 cleaning workers for the past 20 years.

On September 23, Mr. Tran Quoc Trung - Deputy Head of Da Lat Market Management Board - said that the market operates day and night, 365 days a year. Not only serving local residents, the market also welcomes millions of visitors to visit and shop every year.

According to Mr. Trung, the amount of waste generated at the market is very large, an average of 3 tons/day, and the holidays have increased dramatically. Since 2005, the Management Board has established an Environmental Sanitation Team to specialize in collecting and cleaning up waste.

"For the past 20 years, the domestic cleaning workers have been silently dedicated to keeping the market clean and beautiful, keeping the footsteps of tourists," Mr. Trung expressed.

Mr. Thai Ngo Hung - Head of the Environmental Sanitation Team - said that the team has 10 members, mainly female. Every day, the morning shift is from 5am to 5pm, the night shift is from 7pm to 3am the next morning.

During the day, waste from buying and selling activities needs to be treated quickly; at night, workers continue to collect garbage from night markets, gathering it for specialized vehicles to transport.

"Normally, we collect about 30 garbage trucks per day, and about 20 trucks per night. During the peak of the holidays, the volume has increased many times, so we have to make more efforts to keep the market clean and beautiful," said Mr. Hung.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong - a cleaning worker - shared that she has been in this job for 20 years. "When the market is open, we are there, regardless of the sun or rain, day or night.

Every market corner and sidewalk has a broom print of the workers. Although it is hard, everyone is proud to contribute to preserving the beautiful image of Da Lat market in the eyes of people and tourists," Ms. Phuong confided.
