In a house of gratitude located on Muong Khai street, hamlet 1, group 8, My Tra ward (Dong Thap province), Ms. Bui Van Anh (born in 1992) takes care of her young children every day, especially her first son - baby Bui Hai Huy Phong (born in 2018) - a baby boy who lost his mobility after a tragic event when he was only 11 months old.
Before her child got sick, Ms. Van Anh's family life was difficult but still full of laughter. Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoc - Ms. Van Anh's husband, works as a construction worker with an income of about 400,000 VND per day; Ms. Van Anh works as a sales collaborator, earning about 2 - 2.5 million VND/month.
The incident happened when baby Huy Phong was 11 months old. According to Ms. Van Anh, that day the baby was completely healthy, no fever, no unusual signs. After a nap, the baby suddenly cried continuously for about two hours and then fell into a state of cardiac arrest and respiratory arrest.
Panicked, Ms. Van Anh and her husband took baby Huy Phong to the emergency room. CT scan results showed that a lesion suspected of brain hemorrhage appeared in the baby's brain.
At that time, my child turned purple and had cardiac arrest. Doctors had to continuously resuscitate and compress the heart to regain her life," Ms. Van Anh shared.
From the intensive care unit of Thu Duc General Hospital, baby Huy Phong continued to be transferred to Children's Hospital 2. The journey to fight for life lasted more than 4 and a half months, including nearly 2 months lying in the detoxification recovery area completely isolated from the family. Throughout that time, Ms. Van Anh and her husband could only sit outside the hospital corridor waiting. Every day, the family could only visit their child for a few short minutes.
After many months of treatment, baby Huy Phong was saved, but the sequelae left behind were extremely serious. From a child who could crawl, stand and develop normally, he completely lost the ability to walk, sit or take care of himself. Currently, although he has grown up, baby Phong's cognitive ability is only equivalent to a newborn, only recognizing his parents and family members.
The thing that hurts me the most is that my child is still there, but everything about my child has almost had to start over. Seeing my child lying in one place, I can only hug my child and cry," Ms. Van Anh said sadly.
Mr. Hoc and Ms. Van Anh's family has four children. In addition to Huy Phong, the second child - Bui Nguyen Ngoc Ngan (born in 2021) is developing healthy and obedient. But the family has two other young children who also suffer from dangerous diseases. Baby Bui Nguyen Gia Phap (born in 2023) has been hospitalized many times for recurrent pneumonia and is currently suffering from chronic asthma. Meanwhile, the youngest baby Bui Nguyen Gia Khang (born in 2024) has had difficulty breathing since birth, has to breathe oxygen support and is also currently suffering from asthma.
Each month, the cost of medicine outside of insurance for the children alone has consumed a significant amount for a family that is already in difficulty. Currently, Ms. Van Anh is almost unable to work stably because she has to spend all her time taking care of her children, the economic burden is placed on Mr. Hoc's shoulders with his precarious construction work...

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - Head of neighborhood group 1, group 8, My Tra ward, Dong Thap province said that the family circumstances of Mr. Hoc and Ms. Van Anh are particularly difficult in the locality.
