LD26062: Heartbreaking baby girl in Hue born without anus and only one kidney

One rainy afternoon in Hue City, a cramped level 4 house on Hoang Thi Loan street (An Cuu ward) became quieter when mentioning the story of baby Truong Ngoc Nhi, born on November 20, 2024.

Baby Nhi is nearly 16 months old but has gone through a difficult journey of treatment. As soon as she was born, doctors discovered that she had many serious deformities. The whole family from grandparents to parents were healthy, without disease. But Nhi had no anus, no left kidney, right kidney had stage 4 kidney failure and other complex diseases.

The child's mother, Ms. Tran Tuong Giang (27 years old), still cannot forget the first days after her child was born. She said that in the morning she gave birth, and in the afternoon the baby had to be hospitalized. "The doctor said that the child did not have an anus, so surgery was needed to make an artificial anus. Hearing that news, I was stunned," Ms. Giang choked up.

The baby's first months of life were almost associated with the hospital, undergoing 5 surgeries. After many months of treatment, the baby was able to go home but still had to be re-examined and monitored regularly.

Due to illness and many surgeries, baby Nhi is developing slowly, currently weighing only 8kg. She also cannot eat like normal children, mainly eating thin porridge, pureed vegetables and not seasoned.

Every day, the cost of medicine and an amniotic sac alone is more than 200 thousand VND, a not small amount of money for a family that is already very difficult. Mentioning her child, the young mother could not hold back her tears. "I just hope my child is healthier and can live like other children. But seeing my child in pain after each surgery, I feel very sorry," Ms. Giang said in pain.

Pushing myself to save my child

Ms. Giang's family and her husband, Mr. Truong Hieu (35 years old), have three children. In addition to Nhi, the couple's two older children are currently in school, one in 9th grade and one in 6th grade.

The family's main income depends on Mr. Hieu's construction work. The job is hard but precarious, sometimes there is work, sometimes not. Ms. Giang, because she has to take care of her children, the whole family only knows to rely on her husband.

According to Ms. Giang's account, although it was hard, since her youngest child became seriously ill, he almost never dared to take a day off from work. "Some days it was raining and windy, the construction site was closed, but my husband still tried to find another job to do. Just needing a few hundred thousand more to save money for medicine for his child" - Ms. Giang recounted.

Prolonged treatment costs have made the family's economy increasingly exhausted. Money for medicine, hospital fees, living expenses and children's education have become a heavy burden for the young couple.

The level 4 house where the family lives is also degraded, cramped and damp. On rainy days, the old corrugated iron roof makes the space even colder. However, in that small house is still the love and effort of parents.

Ms. Giang said that she and her husband only hope to have enough conditions to continue treating their child. Because baby Nhi still has many surgeries and a long treatment process ahead. "We only hope for more help so that she can continue to be treated. As long as our child has a chance to live healthier, no matter how hard my husband and I work, we can endure it" - Ms. Giang said.
