Vuong Ngoc Lan - a 4-year-old girl in Dao Lam village, Nghia Dan commune, Hung Yen province - was originally running a ton can in front of her house, playing to the music, holding on to her mother's dress every afternoon. Lan has autoimmune encephalitis - a rare and cruel disease. Since the outbreak of the disease, the 4-year-old girl's life has been associated with beds, syringes, machinery and long sleep without crying. After two consecutive months, Lan was actively treated at the National Children's Hospital in a serious condition, having to struggle to make a living every day.

To keep their child from being saved, the doctors forced them to filter the tuong lai 7 times, each time 30 million VND. Every day, Lan has to be given 3 to 5 bottles of special medicine, priced at 3.8 million VND/bunch - most of the cost is not covered by health insurance. The number of hospital fees increased quietly and coldly, far beyond the capacity of a poor working family.

Lan was also infected with another strange virus. In the white room, the little girl lay motionless, her thin hands full of a TV series. No crying, no talking, only weak breathing makes adults standing next to them not dare to breathe hard.

The mother - Ms. Doan Thi Quyen - quit her job as a garment worker to be with her child. "There are nights when I only dare to hold my child's hand, not dare to leave halfway. I was afraid that if I just filmed, I would not be there anymore..., she said, her tears fell silently.

At the age of 4, Lan still did not understand what disease was. I just lay there, waiting for my mother to call, waiting for a miracle.

Meals without parents

When little Lan was still in the midst of the fragile borders of life, another tragedy fell on her small family.

On December 8, 2025, on his way to Hanoi to visit his child, Mr. Vuong Van Toi (born in 1992) - Lan's father unfortunately had a serious accident. He suffered a broken jaw, many areas of his body were damaged, and had to undergo surgery at Viet Duc Hospital. The family's pillar fell and was no longer able to work.

With no one to take care of him, his family had to ask Mr. Toi to go home for monitoring and treatment. One side was a father with serious injuries, the other side was a 4-year-old daughter who had been hospitalized for a long time and needed bottles of medicine to maintain her life.

In her hometown, the other two children - Uyen Nhi (2019) and Gia Khanh (2019) are still of school age and depend on their grandparents. Meals without parents, interrupted calls from the hospital and worries that the children are not old enough to call out their names.

The family originally relied only on her mother's salary as a garment worker and her father's unstable job as a glass aluminum smith. Now, both sources of income are gone. "The money has been borrowed everywhere but my child's hospital fees are too high. Her parents could no longer cope... - Ms. Quyen choked up.

Mr. Hoang Van Hoat - Head of Dao Lam village - said: "Lan's family is in a particularly difficult situation. The child was seriously ill, the cost of treatment was huge, and the father had a serious accident. The locality hopes that benefactors, organizations and individuals will pay attention and help so that the child has more opportunities to receive treatment".

In addition, in the midst of a busy life, maybe little Lan is just a very small name. But for your parents, it's the whole world. As a 4-year-old child who has not yet grown up, he has had to struggle with a serious illness.
