Director closes factory, continues to break promise to pay workers' salaries
Dien Bien - Although he committed to paying wages to workers and laborers before June 30, the Director of DPP Tay Bac Company Limited once again went into a losing streak.
Regarding dozens of workers and laborers at Dien Bien Cassava Starch Processing Factory (belonging to DPP Tay Bac Company Limited - Na hom village, Na Tong commune, old Dien Bien district) - now Na home village, Nuat Ngam commune, Dien Bien province - who have been owed wages for many months, on the afternoon of July 2, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Quang Thanh Nghia ( Na O province, Nuat Ngam commune) indignantly said that not only him but many other people are very angry because the Cassava Starch Processing Factory has repeatedly promised to pay wages and then disappeared in a confusing manner.
Accordingly, DPP Tay Bac Company Limited owes Mr. Nghia the factory site clearance fee and cassava purchase fee but has not paid for many months.
"As of today (September 2), I have not received any money, nor has there been any response from the company, although according to the commitment, the factory director promised to repay the debt before June 30 in the presence of the local government" - Mr. Nghia said.
According to Mr. Nghia, before June 30, he often went back and forth to the factory but could not meet the company representative. "I went there many times but the company director avoided me. I couldn't reach him even by phone call" - Mr. Nghia added.
Similar to Mr. Nghia, Mr. T. - a worker who used to work at the factory said that from February 2025 to now, he has not received a single penny of salary, the salary the factory owes his family is about 50 million VND.
"The company scheduled to pay before June 30. But by noon on June 30, even Mr. Nguyen Le Toan (the company's accountant) had escaped from the factory and locked the gate" - Mr. T. said.
On the afternoon of July 2, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on this issue, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung - Chairman of the People's Committee of Nu Ngam Commune (a newly established commune on the basis of merging 3 communes of Nu Ngam, He Muong and Na Tong) said: "Currently, the new government has not been able to approach and work with representatives of DPP Tay Bac Company Limited. The Commune People's Committee is urgently coordinating with relevant agencies to verify the incident to proceed with a resolution".
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Nu Ngam commune also said that the commune will continue to organize meetings with relevant parties to listen and find a way to resolve the issue. If it cannot be resolved, it will be recommended to the superiors to take necessary legal support measures.
Previously, on June 13, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article reflecting " ki ki su su tich, dozens of workers stretch banners to collect debts". Accordingly, "After many months of unpaid wages, the director of the cassava starch processing factory "disappeared", dozens of workers and laborersetaked banners to collect the debt".
According to the investigation, dozens of workers and laborers at Dien Bien Cassava Starch Processing Factory said that they have been owed wages for many months, and all efforts to contact the director have been in vain.
According to the proposal of the collective of workers working at Dien Bien Cassava Starch Processing Factory, from February 6 to March 13, 2025, the workers have completed the assigned work. However, Mr. Ta Hong Diep - Director of DPP Tay Bac Company Limited, has not yet paid more than 530 million VND in salary as agreed.
Not only owed workers' salaries, a group of 13 other individuals also submitted a petition to the authorities of Na Tong commune (old) about the DPP Tay Bac Company Limited not yet paying about 600 million VND. Of which, 300 million VND is spent on land leveling, building a cassava factory and about 300 million VND is spent on buying fresh cassava from the people.
Immediately after Lao Dong Newspaper reported, on the afternoon of June 13, the People's Committee of Dien Bien District (old) held a working session with the legal representative of DPP Tay Bac Company Limited. At the meeting, Mr. Ta Hong Diep pledged to mobilize capital to pay wages owed to workers before June 30, 2025.
