More than 700 officials of Lang Son province need official housing
More than 700 Lang Son cadres need public housing after the commune merger. The province is speeding up planning and taking advantage of old facilities to soon stabilize housing for these officials.
Going to the headquarters of the People's Committee of the commune
Appointed as Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quan Son commune (a newly merged commune from Huu Kien and Quan Son communes), every day, Mr. Hoang Duc Binh, along with a series of cadres and civil servants, goes back to the mountains to the headquarters of the People's Committee of the commune to work.
Mr. Binh shared: The commune had to temporarily borrow the classrooms of the old Quan Son Commune Primary and Secondary School as a working location. Due to the large area, after the merger, cadres will work at least 10km away from home, some people will be 26 - 27km farthest. The most difficult thing is not having a public housing for officials and civil servants".
According to Mr. Binh, many people have to prepare food from home in the morning, bring boxed rice, eat quickly at noon and then take a break from their chairs and desks before continuing the afternoon shift. At the end of a day, the officers traveled dozens of kilometers, sometimes in dark or windy conditions, to return home.
Similarly, Ms. Hoang Thi Anh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thien Long commune (merged from three communes of Hoa Binh, Tan Hoa commune and Thien Long commune), said that many cadres have to work dozens of kilometers away, some have to rent a room or temporarily stay at the old school. Difficult travel, especially in areas frequently affected by landslides, has forced some officials to stay at the agency to ensure their work.
The whole province has currently arranged more than 4,300 cadres and civil servants for 65 new communes, many of whom are leaders of departments and branches, who have worked at the district level. Faced with initial challenges in terms of housing and living conditions, the staff still demonstrated a high sense of responsibility, proactively overcame difficulties, and maintained the operating order of the apparatus at the grassroots level.
39/65 communes and wards register to build or renovate public housing
Faced with this situation, the People's Committee of Lang Son province has implemented a series of solutions. Right before the new communes came into operation, the province provided emergency support of VND500 million/commune for initial investment in facilities, and at the same time proposed that the Ministry of Finance submit to the Government additional funding to serve the investment of public housing and equipment for the new communes.
Talking with reporters, Mr. Doan Thanh Son - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - said that up to now, 39/65 communes and wards have registered to build or renovate public housing and accommodation for officials. At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction to plan the commune's administrative center and adjust the land use plan for investment in the 2026-2030 period. Proposals for renovating headquarters, public housing, and equipment will be integrated into the medium-term public investment plan and the 2026 budget estimate. In particular, urgent needs such as temporary accommodation renovation and essential equipment will be prioritized for funding in the third quarter of 2025.
Communes are also encouraged to take advantage of existing facilities such as old schools and health stations to temporarily arrange work and living facilities, while proactively balancing the budget to handle local emergency issues.
According to Mr. Trieu Hoang Trung - Head of Housing Management Department - Lang Son Department of Construction, by mid-July 2025, there were more than 700 cadres, civil servants and public employees in the area in need of social housing or public housing. On this basis, the Department of Construction issued a document surveying demand and preparing a suitable investment plan. At the same time, the province is also developing regulations to support social housing for cases with houses owned but far from work.
"Stable housing is a prerequisite for staff to work with peace of mind. Ensuring a stable life is the only way to make a living, thereby creating a foundation for the sustainable development of the grassroots government" - Mr. Trung emphasized.
