At the age of a young man, who should have enjoyed his old age with his children and grandchildren, Mrs. Pham Thi Le (born in 22, residing in Phuoc Truong Hamlet, Quoi An Commune, Vung Liem District) is suffering double the pain. Ms. Le said that in November 2024, she began to have symptoms of severe abdominal pain and could not go to the toilet for many days. When she went to the hospital for examination, the doctor concluded that she had metastatic rectal cancer and needed chemotherapy to reduce the tumor before surgery.

The doctor prescribed 8 rounds of chemotherapy, each 3 weeks apart, and the cost was 7-8 million VND. Currently, the family has to worry about food every day, how to have nearly ten million VND per month to go to chemotherapy" - Ms. Le added.

Ms. Tran Thi Hoa - Ms. Le's neighbor - said that Ms. Le's family has been in difficulty for a long time. Now she is sick, having to run around everywhere to earn money for treatment. "Everyone in this hamlet sympathizes with Mrs. Le's situation. Whoever has contributed anything, fish, meat, and vegetables can help with some, but the poverty of the poor is all that..." - Ms. Hoa added.

Speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Quang Khiem - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quoi An commune, Vung Liem district - said that currently, Quoi An commune still has 6 poor households and 43 near-poor households, Ms. Pham Thi Le's family in Phuoc Truong hamlet is a near-poor household.

According to Mr. Khiem, in May 2025, the People's Committee of the commune has just considered giving Ms. Pham Thi Le a monthly allowance, the support level is 1 million VND/month.

"We are trying to support Ms. Le's family within the local capacity, and at the same time calling for help from the community so that she has more opportunities to treat her illness" - Mr. Khiem added.
